An Extraordinary Evolution
Serving as the blueprint for Purpose Built Communities, the redevelopment of the East Lake community is a landmark achievement in urban renewal. Founded in 1995, the East Lake Foundation was established to help transform the East Lake neighborhood and create new opportunities for the families living there. Working with neighborhood residents and expert public and private partners, the Foundation developed a new community on the site of a former public housing project. This approach to building a strong community not only helps break the cycle of poverty, but also creates a place where people of all ages and incomes choose to live.
A Foundation for Future Success
Drew Charter School has had a meteoric rise, and now is home to one of the Atlanta Public School System’s top-performing elementary and middle schools. The newly opened Drew Senior Academy for grades 9-12 will help reach the goal of a 100% graduation rate.
