United to Grow a Healthy Community

Woodlawn.
We are united as one.
United to plant seeds of change.
United to nurture opportunity.
United to reap hope.
We are Woodlawn.

Our vision is clear - to transform Birmingham’s Woodlawn neighborhood into a vibrant and sustainable community where everybody has an opportunity to thrive.

Our approach is holistic. Radically improved cradle-to-college educational opportunities, mixed income housing, youth and adult development programs, jobs and job training, health and wellness programs, and commercial investment.

The seeds have been planted, and hope has sprouted:
  • Dream Center has opened, becoming a vibrant community hub.
  • The YWCA is expanding low-income housing options, and the YWCA Interfaith House has developed recreational facilities.
  • Cornerstone School, an accredited Christian school, plans to build a new facility.
  • Hundreds of volunteers from Church of the Highlands tutor children from Gibson Elementary and Whatley K-8 schools.
  • Committed alumnae from Woodlawn High School are working as mentors.
  • Christ Health Center has opened, serving thousands.
  • Plans are underway for Jones Valley Farm to establish a community garden.
  • New housing opportunities are being mapped and planned.
  • The Woodlawn business district has enormous potential for a vibrant rebirth.

Woodlawn.
Opportunities are sprouting.
The dream is growing.
It’s the time to reap the harvest.
The harvest of hope.
